Pas-de-Calais
Here some impressions from our recent holiday in France. We've stayed quite far North, in the Pas-de-Calais region. Many will probably only visit this area on their way to and from the port/tunnel and just drive through. Really a shame, the area is beautiful and you are missing out if you don't have a closer look.
Quiet hamlets, beautiful and very spacious beaches and some breathtaking scenery here.
We'd booked a cottage in a tiny village not too far from Montreuil-sur-Mer.Not only we felt inspired by this lovely little town but also Victor Hugo, who had stayed here for a while and chose the town as setting for his novel " Les Misérables". The hotel in which he stayed, the Hôtel de France, is today the oldest still existing hotel in town and sports an impressive guest list.
We were really surprised how much there is to see and do in this area or France and in the end didn't even manage to see all the places we'd have liked to visit.
One of our favourite trips lead us to the estuary of the Somme in St-Valery-sur -Somme. Another gorgeous little town with a charming medieval Old Town, located on a hill and with great views over the estuary.
The favourite attraction for our girls was certainly Dennlys Parc, a theme park for smaller children which we all enjoyed. We had a great time here and they are already asking when they can go again.
My favourite outing lead us to the Underground city in Naours. Absolutely fascinating and incredible !
So would I go again ? Well, absolutely !
